Dear Readers, June 7, 2008
I found myself laughing out loud last night during one of my brief glances at the TV. I was watching Wayne Dyer's "The Power of Intention" PBS broadcast, and during the break, I surfed to a local station. There was a commercial for Eco-motion Motors of Portland--a car dealership that sells only electric and hybrid cars. I laughed and clapped my hands in support, and in gleeful celebration of the free market. It's the ebb and flow of all things that stimulates human imagination, and in socio-economic contexts this translates as "necessity is the mother of invention." This is demonstrated so clearly by the current oil supply shenanigans. Within the next year, look for a vast array of cheaper and more efficient alternatives for fuels, transportation, city planning, and social networking--just because the price of oil went up. I love it.
I just read about the electric inflatable car (see news item below), and heard a discussion on NPR about the huge upsurge of interest in community produce gardens. In the paper yesterday was a story about how new ways of creating sustainable villages are being considered, where all the amenities of urban living are within short walking distances, and how telecommuting will be the rule instead of the exception.
Ultimately, just as cheap oil connected the world's cultures in the past, expensive oil will re-connect those cultures to themselves. And in both instances, it is demonstrated that connection is the most important thing.
Until next time...
In vibrant health,
